Canadian Energy Outlook

Modelling and analysis

Project overview

History

Since 2018, the Trottier Energy Institute (TEI) and its partners have regularly provided in-depth analysis of Canada's energy sector. The Canadian Energy Outlook report, now in its third edition, has become an essential reference in the field.

Based on extensive modeling, this report projects the evolution of Canada's energy production and consumption up to 2060 (2050 for the first edition). It compares several greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction scenarios with a reference scenario, enabling us to assess the cost and impact of various trajectories aimed at achieving medium- and long-term GHG emission reduction targets.

The authors hope their work will help inform policy and investment decisions, given the often incompatible provincial and federal climate commitments. In fact, the analysis is carried out both nationally and province-by-province, taking into account the significant differences between their energy profiles.

Current stage

The Canadian Energy Outlook is now in its third edition. The first two parts have already been published, and the final part will consist of a series of publications on key issues, including infrastructure and off-road transportation.
